Chris Pickerell holds an M.S. from Cornell University and a B.S. from the Rochester Institute of Technology and brings a lifetime of work on the water and over 33 years of experience in marine science, environmental monitoring, and habitat restoration to his work at CMA. Throughout his career, Chris has focused on applied research and field work relating to development of novel methods to restore seagrass and salt marsh habitat. Based on this, he has consulted on projects throughout the US and in Europe. In his current role as Principal and Project Lead at Coastal Monitoring Associates, Chris brings over 18 years of experience working with the Trident and UltraSeep systems as well as data analysis and report writing in support of GSI investigations nationwide.
Lorne Brousseau holds an M.S. from Simon Fraser University and a B.S. from McGill University, and has over 25 years of experience in marine science, water quality monitoring, and coastal resource management. His applied work has spanned quality assessment, stormwater management, and the design and implementation of environmental monitoring programs. As Principal and Project Lead at Coastal Monitoring Associates, Lorne pairs this scientific background with extensive business and operational leadership — spanning operations, finance, contract management, and regulatory compliance — overseeing field operations, client relationships, and the delivery of groundwater–surface water interface investigations.
Chris has a Master of Science degree in Marine Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has extensive experience in research, development, and administration in the marine sciences. His experience includes 30 years as Marine Program Director for the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County – Marine Program. His experience includes applied research and development of equipment and methods to locate and quantify groundwater seepage into surface waters, and as project manager for water quality improvement related initiatives throughout Long Island, New York. As part of this work, he has conducted benthic habitat investigations to characterize sites in relation to shellfish habitat and groundwater seepage. He possesses extensive hands-on experience in fishery, aquaculture and field marine science techniques and technologies, and water quality improvement project design.
Bart has a PhD in Oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. He has extensive experience in research, development, and applied studies in coastal contaminant transport and fate processes. His experience includes 25 years as a lead scientist at the Navy's Marine Environmental Quality Program in San Diego, California. His research and applied experience includes groundwater exchange with the marine environment, contaminant exchange at the sediment-water interface, mixing and exchange processes in bays and estuaries, fate and effects of copper, zinc, and petroleum hydrocarbons in the marine environment, real-time monitoring and mapping techniques, estuarine risk assessment methodologies, and has led the development of a number of new technologies for the assessment of contaminant transport and fate in aquatic environments.
Carson has a B.A. from John Jay College and is CMA's Senior Technician and Safety Officer. Carson is responsible for the deployment, operation, and maintenance of the firm's proprietary field instrumentation, including the UltraSeep seepage meter and Trident Probe porewater sampling system. As Safety Officer, he ensures that CMA's field operations meet the highest standards of HAZWOPER compliance and personnel protection across all project sites.
Alan has a B.A. from Wofford College and served as CMA's first Senior Technician beginning soon after the company's inception in 2003. Over the last two decades, he has worked on UltraSeep and Trident projects in all corners of the United States overseeing all field deployments, facilitating collection of samples and ensuring all equipment was properly calibrated. His experience and dedication over that time are central to the success of the company.
